The 2012 Broadway Producer of the Year is . . .

Drumroll please.

dr-dr-dr-dr-dr-dr-dr-dr-dr-dr-dr-dr-dr-dr-dr-dr-dr

(I don’t know how you spell the sound of a drum roll, so I just used “dr” . . . sue me.)

The Producer’s Perspective readers have e-spoken, and the winner is . . .

JIM NICOLA & NEW YORK THEATRE WORKSHOP!

Jim and NYTW represents the first time a Non-Profit Producer has taken home our big fat prize, which in today’s producing environment I find very fitting.  Without NPs, a whole sh*t ton of shows just wouldn’t happen.

Congratulations, Jim.  You and your theater have helped shaped the global theatrical landscape as well as future generations.  Rent, Once, Peter, etc . . . these shows changed a lot of lives.  I bet there are thousands of folks working in the theater today solely because they saw Rent and said, “I want to do that.”

Thanks to everyone who voted, as well as to the other slate of deserving nominees.

And, as I always say, here’s hoping I see your name on the nominee list next year.  Go on, you can do it.  🙂
