The Sunday Giveaway: 2 Tickets to Rain.
The first concert I ever went to when I was a kid was Beatlemania. And I got so hooked on The Beatles that I bought The Blue Album, The Red Album, and The White Album. If they had an album, and it had a color, I bought it.
One of things I remember about the concert was that the audience was filled with senior citizens, middle-aged couples, and kids like me.
I went to see Rain, the new Beatles experience on Broadway, about a month ago. In the middle of the show, I looked around at the audience and saw . . . senior citizens, middle aged couples, and kids (not like me). In fact, right behind me were 6 teenage girls who might as well have been at a Bieber concert. They were screaming, they knew every lyric to every song, and they kept talking about the singer's haircut.
If you have ever wondered what classic material is, The Beatles are it. They've stood the test of a time. They are to music what Michaelango is to art.
If you're our lucky winner this week, you'll be able to see those generation-bending audiences first hand, because we've got 2 free tickets to see Rain on Broadway!
Here's this week's game:
Did you know that on their famous first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Beatles performed a showtune? If not, click here to see it.
Wouldn't it be amazing if today's pop artists did the same thing? Beyonce perfoming 'For Good' from Wicked on The Tonight Show, or even The Bieber doing 'I'm Alive' from Next to Normal on SNL.
In the spirit of last week's contest, comment below on what pop artist you would most want to see perform a show tune today in their own style.
I'll pick a winner from one of the commenters.
Go! And good luck!

I would love to see John Mayer do showtunes.
Definitely Katy Perry doing some Spring Awakening.
It’d be interesting to see Gwen Stefani be Roxy Hart in Chicago.
Agreed. I think we need to rediscover singles on the Top 40 from new Broadway shows a la “People” or “Send In the Clowns.” Every show should have a breakout song, like the pop recordings from Disney movies. Try Gaga singing “Fly, Fly Away,” from CATCH ME, Jennifer Hudson performing “Take me To Heaven” (SISTER ACT), Willow singing “Finding Wonderland” (WONDERLAND) or Jason Mraz doing anything from MORMON!
Didn’t Alanis sing “Defying Gravity” for something once? I’d love to see her tackle some more Bway…
Hasn’t Josh Groban sung some showtunes in concert? (Besides his appearances in Chess I mean). I would like to see Usher do some re-arranged Broadway ballads.
I think “Maybe” from Annie is one of the greatest show tunes I’ve ever heard, and it would take an unusually fine voice to sing it. I’ll pick Amy Winehouse for her amazing vocals and for her vulnerability.
I would love for Trent Reznor to do anything from Sweeney Todd, especially Pretty Woman and My Friends.
I’d like to see Ruben Studdard sing “Food, Glorious Food” from “Oliver”.
I’d like to see Lady Gaga take on a showtune.
They Might Be Giants = THE INTERNET IS FOR PORN
Vampire Weekend should record POPULAR
And Bruce Springsteen should do a stripped down, dusty cover of FINISHING THE HAT.
I’d like to hear Bon Jovi tackle a showtune–any of the ballads from West Side Story would be interesting (David Bryan could help them out with that).
How about Jon Bon Jovi singing some tunes from Jersey Boys. Now that would be amazing! Especially since he’s a Jersey Boy himself!
Eminem singing in rap “What Kind of Fool Am I” from The Roar of the Greasepaint, the Smell of the Crowd.
Kenny Chesney singing “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from Hairspray, and from 25 Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee it’s Justin Beiber singing “My Unfortunate Erection”
Shinedown doing Easy Street from ANNIE or Defying Gravity from WICKED would be cool. Both would actually work w/ their lead singer’s “screamy” voice, for lack of a better word.
I would love to see Sara Bareilles in any musical, but she’s perfect for Belle in Beauty and The Beast
Lady Gaga Doing ” Magic To Do” From Pippin! The Full Production Number! J
I’d like to hear Jason Mraz take on Sondheim, specifically Into the Woods. I think he could could do a sweet rendition of “Giants in the Sky
Willow Smith: I’m not that Smart from 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
For this lyric:
I like my hair
Really
(sung) It is pleasant to the touch
I toss my hair
A bit too much
Grace Potter doing “Out Tonight” from Rent.
Lady Gaga would totally make a showtune her own. It would be interested to see her take something from Broadway!
Jennifer Hudson already did a great job with Dreamgirls, I think she could bring the spotlight to other showtunes as well.
50 Cent: “A Bowler Hat” from Pacific Overtures.
This is an easy one. Lady Gaga is so theatrical already and actually has a real voice that delivers live. Doesn’t Liza cover Gaga? Or is it just the Liza impersonators? In any case I’d love to hear Gaga cover “Cabaret”. Her voice is perfect for it.
lady gaga and how humbled she felt as she got her award would make a great story for a show and watching her perform would be a treat since she loves attention.(and they could create a set out of meat )
p.s. i’m dying to see Rain asap
How about Taylor Swift doing “Sodomy” or “White Boys” or almost anything from HAIR!
(Of course, they probably wouldn’t allow that on network television, but anyway…..)
Gwyneth Paltrow as The Drowsy Chaperone…
Cerebromedullospinal Disconnection or Ventral Pontine Syndrome is also known as “Locked-in Syndrome” which is
a form of pseudo-coma.
It’s not a CURRENT show tune, but I’d love to hear a soulful Adele cover of “As Long As He Needs Me” from Oliver.
I think it would be interesting to see Eminem put his spin on some of the songs from “In the Heights”, specifically “96,000″ and “In the Heights.”
I’ve also always thought it would be great to hear Christina Aguilera sing “On My Own,” or really any Broadway ballad. Hopefully with the right words though…
It would be a dream come true to see American Idol runner-up David Archuleta (a practicing Mormon) sing “I Believe” from “The Book of Mormon.”
Leonard Cohen – Putting It Together. Done & done.
Beyonce singing He had it coming from CHICAGO!
But be careful.
