EPA / Child Performers – Matilda The Musical

WHO:   Matilda The Musical – Royal Shakespeare Company (UK) and Dodgers

SEEKING: EPA / Child Performers

Roles of Matilda, Bruce and Lavender (children, played by children) ONLY. EPAs for adult roles have already been held.

Matilda (Female, Age 9 to 11 – Up to 4’ 4”) Strong singer and confident speaker. Good understanding of text and intelligent approach to acting. Matilda should look like the runt of the litter. She does not appear posh or contemporary, rather more damaged and weak from a working class background. However, she is extremely bright, fearless and focused, and able to speak assertively. Matilda is a fiercely clever child, living in an abusive household she escapes into books and her imagination.

Lavender (Female, Age 9 to 12 – Up to 4’5”) Lavender is in awe of Matilda, and has decided that she is Matilda’s best friend. Quirky. Full of spunk. Must be a strong dancer, actress and singer.

Bruce (Male, Age 9 to 13 – Up to 4’8”) Comedic actor with a very strong pop voice needed for this role. Also a great dancer. He has some great scenes especially when he is forced to eat a whole chocolate cake by Miss Trunchbull. Singing is VERY important – broad range and pop style required.

REQUIREMENTS: This audition is for children only. Please bring a photo and resume. Girls, please prepare a short contemporary musical theatre song. Boys, please prepare a pop song that shows range and pop style. Everyone, please bring a short poem or piece of a story, which you may be asked to present. Suggestions are a short piece of a story by Roald Dahl (James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, etc.) or in the style of Roald Dahl (ie. Series of Unfortunate Events, Wizard of Oz, The Secret Garden, Winnie the Pooh, etc.). Please keep story piece under 1 minute.
