POSITION: Producing Director

DESCRIPTION: The Producing Director will join Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS’ Senior Staff (Executive Director, Director of Finance and Administration and Director of Communications and Development) to oversee all workings of the organization, including annual budget, staffing and overall direction.

Working closely with the Executive Director, the Producing Director will have direct responsibility for supervising the production and theatrical fundraising department staff of nine. S/he must have the ability to assign specific duties to and manage the staff by offering a clear understanding of the objective as well as provide motivation and support.

In addition to supervising the staff and working closely with the Executive Director, the Producing Director will serve as lead producer on BC/EFA’s annual events, including the Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction, Gypsy of the Year, Broadway Backwards, Easter Bonnet Competition and Broadway Bares.

The Producing Director will maintain a constant interaction with the theatre community, particularly on Broadway. Expertise, appreciation for and fluency in this very unique world are essential. The Broadway theatre community is BC/EFA’s greatest single constituency and our stewardship of the myriad relationships it encompasses forms the foundation of our fundraising success and grant-making ability.

The Producing Director must be an excellent ambassador of BC/EFA, be comfortable representing its objectives, services and unique fundraising and grant-making personality in the Broadway community, as well as nationwide.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Works under the supervision of and in collaboration with the Executive Director to coordinate all fundraising activities during two annual six-week fundraising drives on Broadway and around the country which lead up to Gypsy of the Year and Easter Bonnet Competition
• Maintains a regular presence in the Broadway theatres evenings and weekends and participates in the annual 12 weeks of audience appeals
• Serves as lead producer for Gypsy of the Year and Easter Bonnet productions, including overseeing the opening number and special material, as well as working with talent from all Broadway shows, designers, stage managers, director and technical team
• Works under the supervision of the Executive Director and Executive Producer/Artistic Producer to produce all Broadway Bares initiatives, including the annual benefit in New York City, small events throughout the metro New York area, fundraising activities in gay bars and clubs, website maintenance, new fundraising initiatives, auction packages and anything else needed to produce a successful event
• Leads the production team for the Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction, with particular emphasis on organizing more than 200 lots for the live and silent auctions both online and at the event, and serving as auctioneer for the silent auction
• Serves as lead producer or supervises other staff producers on one-time only special events as determined by the Executive Director
• Works in conjunction with the Director of Communications and Development to produce Broadway Backwards and as part of the production team on any and all of BC/EFA’s other annual events, including Broadway Barks and Fire Island Dance Festival
• Oversees BC/EFA’s Volunteer Coordinator
• Works closely with other BC/EFA departments, including development, communications and finance in the production of events and audience appeals, fostering an atmosphere of collaboration that recognizes the critical importance of all in BC/EFA’s organizational success.
• Leads and facilitates the professional development of the production staff
• Provides detailed reports on fundraising progress of events and fall and spring fundraising campaigns to the Executive Director and Board on a regular basis
• Attends all meetings of the BC/EFA Board of Trustees

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience and knowledge, appreciation and understanding of the Broadway theatre community
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including the poise and presence to be effective representing BC/EFA to a wide range of constituents – from the casts of Broadway shows to corporate sponsors and auction winners
• Excellent planning and organizational skills
• Demonstrated ability to produce events from top to bottom
• Ability to create a budget and track an event’s production costs
• Availability to work weeknights and weekends throughout the year
• Proven experience in auction implementation including asks, organization and fulfillment of auction packages
• Strong self-motivator with “fire in the belly” to produce unforgettable special events
• Staff management experience
• Superior writing skills
• A bachelor’s degree and 5 years of fundraising, production and/or nonprofit experiences
• Proven experience working in the theatrical community. An expert understanding of the professional and personal relationships that drive the Broadway community is essential.
• Flexibility, creative thinking and drive; a strong sense of self, tempered by an empathic nature and emotional intelligence
• A sense of humor and affection for dogs
