Don’t Stop Your Next Idea

Hey Writers,

So listen to this . . .

I had this great idea for a musical. It was based on a certain popular novel. And I’m telling you, this thing would make the best musical . . . it has all the elements. Underdog hero, heightened themes, super passionate love story, and an ending with just the right amount of joy without being too treacly.

And just YESTERDAY, I found out that I couldn’t get the rights.

Ugh.

I tried. But it just ain’t gonna happen.

Disappointing, right?

I’m sure you’ve had great ideas that didn’t happen for one reason or another . . . rights, collaborators, etc.
And I’m sure you’ve been just as disappointed as I am right now.

The trick is . . . you can’t let that stop you from having your next great idea.

When I first started in this biz and one of my first great ideas came to a screeching halt, I was literally in tears about it. I thought, “I’ll never come up with anything as good again!”

But I did.

And you will too.

It’s easy to think that one idea of yours is the only one you’ll come up with. But it’s not. If you’ve come up with one, you can come up with a hundred! The mind is like the richest oil field on the planet. Just keep drilling, and you’ll find more and more and more.

So if something doesn’t happen for whatever reason, don’t sweat it. You’ve got another great idea. You didn’t even need that first one.

Just get on with the next.

Go get ’em.

Best,
Ken
