Broadway Grosses w/e 9/03/2017 – Summer labors to an end.

Labor Day has come and gone, and like it always does, it boosted the slipping August grosses back up to more peak-like summer numbers.
Overall, the street was up 5% from the previous week. Some of that extra juice came from the departing Natasha, Pierre which, thanks to the folks who rushed to see The Comet disappear into the night sky, closed on Sunday to a tune of $1.1mm.
No shows crossed the $3mm threshold, however, which says demand wasn’t as high as it has been on other three day weekends. Is that a sign of what September is going to bring?
It might be. Although, a few shows are closing up shop (like the aforementioned Natasha, Pierre), meaning less competition for the remaining options. I’m feeling some weakness in the market which may make September a little cooler than we would like.
