Broadway Producer Pick List: Mary Marie

Thirteen-year-old Mary Marie is bright, free-spirited, and surprisingly philosophical about her parents’ 1920’s divorce. In fact, she can’t wait to be able to observe and write about all the various romances they are sure to have now that they are no longer married to each other. But though Mother seems carefree enough, Father is as devoted to his work as ever, and neither one of them seems headed for any new romance. As Mary Marie continues being shuttled from Mother in Boston to Father and domineering Aunt Jane in Andersonville, and back again, the novelty of her situation begins to wear thin. Through it all, she discovers not only more about her parents, but about who she is as well.

CHANA WISE has written book and lyrics for Mary Marie (NAMT Festival, 2014, Richard Rodgers Award finalist, 2014, TRU Voices finalist 2019), Bagels! the musical (JETfest, 2016, Neil Simon Playwriting Contest finalist 2015, TRU Voices finalist, 2019), Tinseltown Christmas, and The Coffee Quintet,  all with music by Carl Johnson.  Chana also wrote lyrics for The Max Factor Factor, (music – Joe Blodgett, book – Adrian Bewley) produced at the NoHo Arts Center in August, 2014, Earthbound, (book by Adam Hahn, music by Jonathan Price) and The Island, (book and music by Jonathan Price), both produced by SkyPilot Theatre, and for Cardinal Sins, at Centerstage Theatre in Washington, May, 2017.  Her lyrics have been included in songs performed by Cheyenne Symphony and Dubuque Symphony Orchestras.
