Thirteen-year-old Mary Marie is bright, free-spirited, and surprisingly philosophical about her parents’ 1920’s divorce. In fact, she can’t wait to be able to observe and write about all the various romances they are sure to have now that they are no longer married to each other. But though Mother seems carefree enough, Father is as devoted to his work as ever, and neither one of them seems headed for any new romance. As Mary Marie continues being shuttled from Mother in Boston to Father and domineering Aunt Jane in Andersonville, and back again, the novelty of her situation begins to wear thin. Through it all, she discovers not only more about her parents, but about who she is as well.
