Creative Development Manager – Disney Theatrical Group
WHO: Disney Theatrical Group (DTG)
SEEKING: Manager of Creative Development, to aid the Vice President of Creative Development and Licensing in promoting and upholding artistic excellence in our theatrical division.
The role is to provide artistic input in the development of new musicals and guide the writing process by analyzing and implementing creative ideas. This individual will also be responsible for pitching new ideas and re-purposing existing Disney content for development as a stage property.
If you are well versed in musical theatre writing, possess knowledge of new and emerging writers and have a keen sense of pairing musical writing teams with specific projects this is an excellent opportunity for you.
-Provide the department with resources to select composers, lyricists, book writers, music arrangers, orchestrators for projects.
-Communicate ideas to writers to implement in writing process
-Provide casting resource for readings and workshops
-Create relationships with Disney brands beyond Disney Theatrical Productions including theme parks, cruise line, ABC, Disney Studios, Disney Channel, and Pixar
-Seek out new opportunities to broaden the titles within the Disney Collection
-Establish relationships with artists and theatrical agents
-Hold pulse on current theatrical climate. Knowledge of shows running on Broadway, Off-Broadway and fringe
-Engage in conversations to spark creative invention
REQUIREMENTS: Strong critical thinking and script analysis skills are essential to the success of this position. Applicants must have 5 to 7 years of creative experience in guiding the writing process and developing/executing artistic input for new musicals. Individuals’ need an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to operate in a fast paced environment, along with the drive to seek and find opportunities for growth and advancement. Candidates should be able to multi-task, manage projects, and work well independently or as a member of a team. The ideal candidate will have a distinguished level of sophistication, in addition to having the knack to understand the nuances of different cultures and the aptitude to develop strategies to effectively communicate to consumers in these markets. *Disney or character based experience is a plus.
