SEEKING: Production Activities Administrator, Vocal Arts

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is a 10 Month/Year Position

Opera Productions
• Work with the Artistic and Administrative Directors on season programming, resolving artistic and technical issues
• Coordinate meetings with designers, artistic team and Vocal Arts, advancing production’s conceptual process
• Coordinate the physical requirements of each opera production including sets, costumes, props, specific lighting/special effects, ground plans, set models and costume sketches
• Serve as a department liaison for guest directors, conductors, designers and members of the artistic team
• Coordinate regular, ongoing meetings with design teams and the production and vocal arts departments throughout the rehearsal process, addressing and facilitating timely resolution for all issues that may arise which impact artistic vision or budget
• Attend staging and technical rehearsals (including lighting/cueing sessions and technical review sessions) to ensure that the rehearsal environment is safe
• Facilitate distribution of scores to cast, covers, conductor, coaches, pianists, and production staff
• Coordinate post-production meetings with directors, design teams, stage managers and production department for all opera productions generating a post-production report

Stage Management
• Oversee stage managers’ daily rehearsal reports and generate weekly production reports
• Facilitate recruitment of, and oversee, train and manage contracted stage managers and assistant stage managers
• Serve as stage manager for opera programs and activities if assigned

Programs and Performance Activities
• Create and update a comprehensive production/rehearsal calendar for all Vocal Arts productions, programs and performance activities
• Facilitate the coordination of the production schedule with the overall coaching schedule for Vocal Arts programs and performance activities
• Manage physical requirements and logistical needs for rehearsals and performances in Vocal Arts spaces including audience seating, lighting, signage, piano tunings, harpsichord moves and tunings
• Manage physical requirements and logistical needs for Vocal Arts classes and events
• Oversee the physical needs of the department, monitoring requests for various equipment, furniture, set pieces, props, instruments

Production Department Coordination
• Serve as Vocal Arts Department liaison with production shop heads and stage crews, attending Opera Monthly and weekly staff meetings conducted by the Production Department
• Attend and participate in safety and long-term planning meetings conducted by the Production Department

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Production management experience; some experience in opera production
• Familiarity with operatic repertoire and production elements associated with repertoire
• Some musical experience – either performance or musical study
• Must be able to read a music score
• Stage management experience
• Ability to work evening and weekend hours
• Experience in an education setting or with a Young Artist Program preferred
