Equity Actors – “Amadeus”

WHO: Geva Theatre/Rochester, NY

SEEKING: Equity Actors

Antonio Salieri – Male, mid 30s to early 40s. Must possess authority, charm, a slick surface, and an even darker underbelly with intelligence, talent, wit and deftness. He is ironic in the extreme. A skillful politician: calculating, with a keen eye and ability to laugh at himself; very self-aware and mindful of his surroundings. Like Iago and Richard III, we must be able to like him even as we see him set in motion events that are intended to do people in. Can be solicitous, patronizing, ingratiating, kind and compassionate-seeming, and able to turn on a dime. Great sense of restraint and propriety, but also able to cut loose and lash out. Requires formidable language skills and a supple speaking voice. Room for salary negotiation.

Constanze Mozart – Female, early to mid 20s. She is a beauty, with a bit of coarseness or commonness to her. Sexy, appealing, silly, and able to seem unaware and innocent while also capable of great calculation. Can pout and manipulate with the best of them; becomes an astute businesswoman. A musical background is helpful, as the character’s speeches must be timed with Mozart’s music at key moments in the play.

WHEN: Auditions will be held July 5-6. Submissions received after July 2nd will not be considered. 1st rehearsal: August 17, 2010. Runs: September 7 – October 3
