Literary Intern – Playscripts, Inc.

WHO: Playscripts, Inc.

SEEKING: Literary Intern

RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a highly interactive internship that provides actual publishing experience, rather than merely helping you sharpen your photocopying skills. Duties can include researching theater productions, reading and evaluating script submissions, attending plays, assisting with management of data and correspondence and other administrative tasks.

REQUIREMENTS:  Theater knowledge is required, and an appreciation for new works is a plus. We're looking for an energetic, self-motivated and responsible individual, with excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to multi-task. Requirements: Touch-typing proficiency (at least 60 words per minute); proficiency with standard word processing, email, and web browsing software. Preferred: Microsoft Excel proficiency.

WHEN: Approximate start date of internship is February 1st and ends on May 15th. Office hours are M-F, from 10am-6pm. Minimum commitment of 16 hours per week.

PAY: A travel/lunch stipend is provided ($15/day), and the experience should be eligible for course credit at most schools. Perks include free tickets to various shows in NYC.

HOW TO APPLY: Send application via email to Sarah Bernstein, Literary Associate, at sbernstein@playscripts.com and include the following:

1) Cover letter detailing your interest in Playscripts, Inc.

2) Resume of your artistic and administrative experience.

3) Brief literary analysis of a play you've read or seen, focusing on the script, not the production (~200 words).

4) Letter of recommendation [optional]

Please submit applications by January 8th, 2011
