The Sunday Giveaway: 2 Tickets to Driving Miss Daisy.
One of my New Year’s Resolutions was to figure out more ways to thank all of you for reading and tweeting and liking the blog . . . which is why I’ve come up with The Sunday Giveaway!
Every single Sunday, I’ll announce a contest where . . . well . . . I give something away!
It might be tickets to a Broadway show, a new CD, or a program from the original Broadway production of Carrie (I do have one of those), but it will be something and it will be cool . . . and it will be every single Sunday.
And we’re starting it off right with TWO FREE TICKETS to see the Actors Fund performance of the recently recouped Broadway revival of Driving Miss Daisy! Woo-woo!
Daisy stars a couple of newcomers . . . Vanessa Redgrave and James Earl Jones . . . and is directed by David Esbjornson (who will be featured in an upcoming 10 Questions for a Broadway Pro).
If you haven’t seen Daisy yet, you’re in for a treat. And if you’ve never been to an Actors Fund performance, well then that treat is going to taste that much sweeter. AF audiences are some of the most supportive in the world as they are filled with members of the industry who care enough to support one of the most important charities the NYC theater has, The Actors Fund.
The performance is February 7th at 8 PM.
How do you enter Giveaway Sunday and get a shot at these free tickets?
Every week will be different . . . but for this week, all that you have do is write a comment on this blog entry asking to be entered. We’ll randomly pick a commenter and bingo, bongo, you’re going to see Vanessa and James. (Email and Facebook readers, click here to reach the blog so you can comment and enter.)
Make sense?
I will announce the winner next Sunday, when I also announce the following week’s giveaways! You have up to 11:59 PM each Saturday to enter.
Simple!
Thanks again for reading, and I’m thrilled that we have this opportunity to give stuff away as a thank you for your awesome support of this blog and of theater in general.
Oh, and if you have cool stuff you want to give away, email Jen Tepper in my office at jennifer@davenporttheatrical.com.
Good luck!
Don’t forget to comment below to enter to win the two tickets to see Driving Miss Daisy!

I last saw Mr. Jones live in the one man B’way show, “Paul Robeson,” back in 1977 or so. He had a terrible head-cold, but didn’t want to disappoint his fans, so he went on, and incorporated his sneezing and coughing into the characterization. Moreover, my girlfriend at the time was a student at the High School of the Performing Arts, and asked to meet with him post-show. Mr. Jones graciously chatted with us and gave us a backstage tour. A champion among champions.
Ken: your blog continues to impress me. If anyone is going to bring new ideas to the theatrical industry and help the fabulous invalid succeed, it is going to be you! It’s so easy to say, “well, we can’t try that, because we’re such a unique industry,” but you’re willing to look at theater from all sorts of perspectives. Terrific! And by the way, add my name to the Driving Miss Daisy contest!
I love free stuff. And your blog. And free theatre. And daisies. And driving places. So…. enter me please!
Please enter me into the contest! That is the day after I finish two weeks of grad school auditions (MFA Acting), and it would be a real treat to see consummate professionals at their bets!

Hi Ken,
As one of your readers, who just enjoy reading about “backstage theatre”, and lives no close to Broadway enough to take advantage of your Broadway giveaways, could I just participate and ask you to give this potential prize to an underpriviledge local someone(s)who could enjoy this prize?
Keep on writing, Ken. Though I may not be involved in theatre anymore, the tips and tricks, and inspiration your blog provides, to me at least, goes way beyond theatre and Broadway. Thanks!
I would like to be entered into the contest to win 2 tickets to see Driving Miss Daisy, starring James Earl Jones and Vanessa Regrave.

Please enter me to win. I love James Earl Jones. I last saw him a couple of years ago in ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’. He is exceptional in everything he is in. His performance in On Golden Pond was extraordinary. And even though he was not visually in Star Wars, his voice is so identified with those films. And everytime I think of Vanessa Redgrave, I think of an 8 hour flight I was on and watching her movie Atonement.
Count me in! I’m young, broke, and would love to see the show. 🙂
Please enter me in the contest! Thanks!
Congrats on all the responses! Nice way to get out “the WORD”!!!!
Enter me while you’re at it!

Long-time reader, first-time commenter. (Could this perhaps be a marketing ploy to get so-far-quiet-readers to break out of their shells and start commenting? If so… it worked!) I would LOVE to see Driving Miss Daisy!
