2011 Season Additional Call – Musicals at Richter

WHO: Musicals at Richter

SEEKING:

Musicals at Richter (MAR), now in its 27th season as the longest-running outdoor theater in Connecticut, will hold an additional call for selected roles and ensemble parts in its 2011 season on Saturday, April 30 from 1 – 3 p.m. at The Melrose School, 120 Federal Hill Road, in Brewster, NY, just a few minutes from Danbury's Richter Park.

The main stage musical season includes “Gypsy” (June 16-July 2) directed by Donald Birely of New York City, "Sweeney Todd" (July 7-23) directed by E. Kyle Minor of Danbury, and “Oliver!” (July 28 – August 13) directed by Mr. Birely. Musical directors are Dan Koch of Millbrook, NY (“Gypsy” and “Sweeney Todd”) and Tom Morris of Danbury (“Oliver!”).

For “Gypsy,” Mr. Birely is seeking: Electra (mezzo belt, age 20-40), a burlesque dancer with a gimmick all her own; young boys (ages 8 -12) to play the Newsboys in Baby June’s vaudeville act; young men (ages 16 – 21) for the Farmboys in June’s later act; and young women (ages 16-21) for the Hollywood Blondes, Louise’s act. Also needed are versatile male ensemble performers to cover various character roles (Mr. Goldstone, Kringelein, Cigar and others.)

For “Sweeney Todd,” Mr. Minor is seeking strong male singer/actors for the ensemble, especially baritones, to portray multiple roles.

For “Oliver!” Mr. Birely is seeking: Fagin (Baritone, 40s-60s), the leader of the gang of pickpockets; Bill Sykes (Bass/baritone, late 20s-30s), a graduate of Fagin’s gang who is a fierce thief and handsome brute; and Mr. Brownlow (Baritone, 40s-60s), Oliver’s kindly grandfather.

AUDITION INFORMATION: Auditionees should bring a picture and resume if they have them, prepare two Broadway show tunes (up-tempo and ballad) that show their range, and bring sheet music in their key; an accompanist will be provided. They should be prepared to learn a short dance combination and read from the script if asked to stay. Please note that these positions are unpaid and housing is not available.
