SEEKING: The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) is conducting a national search for an Executive Director. Founded in 1985 and based in New York City, NAMT is a not-for-profit service organization dedicated exclusively to musical theatre. NAMT’s 150 member organizations are some of the leading producers of musical theater in the world, and include theatres, presenters, higher education groups, developmental organizations, and individual producers. NAMT’s mission is to nurture the creation, development, and production of new and classic musicals; and to provide a forum for musical theatre professionals to share resources and exchange information. Member programs include two conferences per year, industry research, publications, and a members-only web site. New Works programs include the Festival of New Musicals; summits; and the National Fund for New Musicals, NAMT’s granting program to support writers and producers in the creation of new work. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and has fiscal and managerial responsibility for all programs as well as a full time staff of four. The Board recently approved a five-year strategic plan. The ED will be responsible for executing the strategies in the plan, which includes raising significant funds for granting programs; improvements in technological applications; analysis and refinements to existing programs; and executing a marketing campaign. Working effectively with committees is a key component of the job. The ED also represents the musical theatre field in national arenas, such as on the board of the Performing Arts Alliance and with the National Endowment for the Arts. Maintaining and growing strong funder relationships is a core responsibility for the job, as contributed income is 50% of the total budget.
REQUIREMENTS: Must have worked at least 10 years in a senior level capacity for a not-for-profit organization and have managed a staff; have proven fundraising success; have significant budgeting expertise; have strong affinity for effective use of technology, especially web sites. Need to have a passion for musical theatre and knowledge of development and production of musicals. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. B.A. required; Masters in management strongly preferred.
