The 4th Annual Producer’s Perspective Social – And you’re invited!

Save the date, PPers, it’s time for the Producer’s Perspective offline event of the year, the Producer’s Perspective social.

(insert sound of “whoop whoop” here)

Don’t know what the Social is?

Every year I invite all my readers to get offline and come mix and mingle with other readers here at my office.  We have food, drink, games, and a chance for you to mix, mingle and network with other folks who love the theater just like you.  We’ll have actors, writers, producers, designers and more in one place for a few hours.  And I’m proud to say that it’s the biggest mixer of its kind in the city.

This year marks my fourth social (!), and it plans to be the biggest yet.

So come!  It’s free.  It’s fun.  It’s another word that begins with an f that I can’t come up with right now because it’s like 2:30 in the morning.

Here are the deets!

The Producer’s Perspective Social
Thursday, December 15th
6:30 – 8:30 PM
250 West 49th St.  #301

One rule . . . you must RSVP.  Do so by clicking here.  We’ve got limited space here at the ol’ DTE headquarters, and we also need to know how much dip to buy. Oh, and all the previous years of the social have “sold out”.

(NOTE: Your RSVP only guarantees your admission. If you would like to bring a guest, please have them RSVP separately.)

So RSVP today and I will see you on the 15th!

Click here to RSVP.  And let’s social it up.

    Dear Mr. Davenport, et al:
Aside from being one on Broadway most successful Off-& Broadway Producers (Ken Davenport is a Broadway and Off-Broadway producer. Recent Broadway productions include Oleanna starring Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles, Speed-the-Plow starring Raul Esparza, Will Ferrell’s You’re Welcome America, Blithe Spirit starring Angela Lansbury, and 13. Ken is the only independent producer to have had three shows running simultaneously Off-Broadway – Altar Boyz, The Awesome 80s Prom and My First Time. He was recently featured on a national commercial for Apple’s iPhone, named one of Crain’s “Forty Under 40” in 2008, and was dubbed the “P.T. Barnum of Off-Broadway” by The New York Times. He has written articles for Forbes, Mashable, Imedia and others. **
Oh, yea there’s that hugely successful revival of

    Music & Lyrics
    Stephen Schwartz*
Mr. Producer if you please. I’d love to ‘meet & Greet’ you and your assistant (Ms. Caplow.)BTW she currently has one f my musicals under review:
    “Whitechapel” ©
    The Life & Times
    ‘Jack The Ripper’
    A Musical Love Story! ™
    Concept, Titles,
    Book & Lyrics

    Composed & Arranged
    Brandon Kress
I wish I could attend. But being December; (“Jiggle Bells”) Do I have to pay a royalty for that? No? Good Because I didn’t sing it you did!) But I am from Boston; sadly not N.Y.C.
But, as a poor; Playwright & Lyricist, of over a dozen (yes-12!) Book & Lyrics for over a dozen Two-Act musicals; I am alas no richer then most of my Actor friends.
Then it accrued to me. Not only are you the King of both On & Off Broadway musicals, you are the King of ‘give-a-ways’ too! You’re always giving away tickets to Broadway premiers, and other On & Off Broadway shows. This is ‘my-pitch,’ (The 1st of many; but I hope the other’s will be Musicals you’ll be Producing!)
Having worked as a Personal Assistant to several Fortune ‘One-Thousand’ companies most, ‘Corporate -Functions’ are to some degree, a ‘Write-Off’ for your CPA to handle. May I humbly suggest that you make it a contest of some kind (another one of your geniuses) to the ‘Out-of-Towners’ a chance to win say two-round trip airline tickets, a one night stay at ‘local’ hotel and transportation to & from the event?
As one of the most successful Producers and Promoters working ‘The Great White’ way these days; why not continue your art of the-give-a-way/tie-in to you and your DAVENPORT Productions/Producing staff. I for one would sell my Mother-In-Law to Satan for a chance to me you, possible Mr. Schwartz and the infamous Ms. Jane Caplow. If there happens to be a pair of ‘winners tickets’ for most creative suggestion this week/day being sent my way; I thank you here and now and in advance.
Q: who’s the best Producer working Broadway today?
A: Ken Davenport. Did I win?
    Bryan David
    Playwright & Lyricist
(of: “GOODSPELL” –( Bob Fosse’s ) “Pippin” and a little show called…oh ya “WICKED”

I can’t attend the social because I’m teaching a class that night. However, I would like to thank you for some great questions and ideas. I’ve recently been hired as the Managing Directors for the Planet Connections Theater Festivity (, and I’ve already started thinking about some of the same things you cover in your blog. I’ve never had to think about marketing the plays I’ve worked on before. I’m going to adapt some of your ideas and see what happens.
