The Sunday Giveaway: 2 Tickets to The Pied Pipers of the Lower East Side
They’re baaaaaaack.
The Amoralists, a theater company darling of the NY Times, is appearing in our Sunday Giveaway for the second time in two months. Back in late June, their critically acclaimed production of The Bad and the Better was giving away tickets (and a gun).
This time they’re giving away tickets all by their lonesome, to their NY Times Critics’ pick, The Pied Pipers of the Lower East Side.
Interesting thing about Pipers . . . it’s a prequel . . . to The Bad and the Better.
And that made me think of other shows that might have interesting prequels.
What happened before Tony and Maria met at the dance? What was college like for Princeton in Avenue Q?
Give me some examples of a show that you’d like to see prequeled, and I’ll pick one to win the tickets.
Get it? Got it? Good.
Go!

FUN STUFF:
– Collaborator Speed Date – Back to School Edition on 9/6 at 6:30PM! Click hereto register.
Would love to see a prequel to “Next to Normal” to see what was going on with the Goodmans when the children were younger.
“Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” – would love to observe the early days of George & Martha.
Les Miserables–from Fantine’s perspective. We hear about how much better her life was before she was impregnated and abandoned, and the book Les Mis by Victor Hugo goes into much more depth than the musical. It would be interesting to see how she grew up and what led her to the passionate romance which eventually ruined her.
I’d love to meet “April” (Roger’s ex) and see what went on between the gang in Rent prior to that fateful Christmas eve.
Amos & Roxy from Chicago. How did that happen?
Newsies – Katherine being raised in money and rebeli ng against her father. Jack in the refuge. How the boys lost their families and ended up on the street. Davey’s family.
“Kittens”
The Line Before, a pre-quel to A Chorus Line. What was that number that Cassie stopped the show with? Was Sheila flirting with Zach when they were in a show all those years ago? What did Val look like before she bought that T&A? How good of a dancer was Zach, how did he get along with another director? And how many times did Zach audition to be in a Chorus?
I would love to see a prequel to Rent. What were the characters like growing up? Where are they from? What experiences shaped their personalities?
Wind, the prequel to Gone With The Wind.
The Wizard of Oz. Oh wait…LOL
Benjamin Barker: the Happy Barber of Fleet Street
ROSE
A ‘MAMA’ IN THE MAKING
“SPRINGTIME WITH ALOIS & KLARA”
A MUSICAL ROMP WITH BABY ADOLPH
” ROMEO & RAMON ”
WHAT HAPPENS IN VERONA STAYS IN VERONA !
I’ve already written a play called “What Happens in Verona.” 🙂
I would love to see a prequel to RENT, back when Benny lived as a roommate with the gang!
BONNIE & CLYDE – THE EARLY YEARS
The highly awaited rollicking musical comedy from Broadway’s top boxxo hitmaker Frank Wildhorn
sweeney’s wienies–when mr. todd learned the fine art of slow cooking
Prequel to Mary Poppins- What was she like as a child. How did she get her “magical powers’?
The prequil to the TV show “The Big Bang Theory” would explore the peculairities of the learning needs of genius Sheldon trying to survive in a regular kids school world. Teachers exhibit shame when they can’t keep up with his 6 year old mind. Other children don’t know what to think about him. Some kids claim he is from Mars because he speaks in words beyond foreign to them. Some kids are afraid of him while others laugh at and about him . How Sheldon deals with teasing is explored, especially due to his inability to identify humor as different from abuse and ridicule. A further exploration of disibility, giftedness, and simply being different is ilucidated. School culture and cliques are up for scrutiny. Learning to honor intelligence as contrasted to coolness is an overriding theme.
This would be titled ” Little Big Bang”
Sheldon actor Jim Parsons could act in the musical described above. Sheldon will act as the adult with flashbacks to Sheldon the 6 yr old, up to college age, with Flash to present, back and again to present as Sheldon remembers pivitol issues and how they affected him. This technique will be used throughout “Little Big Bang”
How about a prequel to “August: Osage County”? It could be called “January: Osage County”. We could meet Violet in her younger happier years with a happier husband, Beverly, and see how things declined leading to her drug addiction and his suicide.
A prequel to Sweeney Todd would be great.
I have two:
1. Rent – to see Mimi & Benny’s relationship and Roger and April’s, and Mark and Maureen’s… also maybe see how each character that has AIDS was told (well we know how Roger found out)
2. Power Ballads – Would love to actually see Dieter & Scott in High School! Not just the one photo of Dieter… and See Ditch Weed play
And see Mary dancing around the livingroom with her father 🙂
Did anyone else here a Guitar Riff when I said “DITCH WEED”?! 😀
I’d love to see the prequel to Sunday in the Park and see how George and Dot met during his earlier paintings…maybe perhaps respectively called “Sunday in The Suburbs?”
BTW, Isn’t this a one-week limited engagement that plays tomorrow (August 28) through Sunday, Sept 2?
Next to Normal–I always wanted to know what led Diana to end up in the swimming pool during Natalie’s swim meet.
Before he was King in “The King and I.”
SWEET BABY CHARITY–What was Charity Hope Valentine’s childhood like? How did she come to be a dance hall hostess instead of the CEO of a Fortune 500 company? Inquiring minds want to know.
I too, would LOVE to see a Prequeal to RENT and meet April as well as the rest.
Off topic of Prequals…..would LOVE to see one of the SHREK sequals made. Perferably 4-ever After
Prequel to Jesus Christ Superstar…”Mary and Joseph: the Early Days”
“Johnny Goes to Prison,” a gritty prequel to Frankie and Johnny.
A prequel to Music Man, about Harold Hill’s life called “What happens in Indiana stays in Indiana.”
