POSITION: Director, Special Events
DESCRIPTION: Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), a Tony Award-winning nonprofit theatre dedicated to the production of contemporary plays and musicals, seeks a full time Director, Special Events. For over forty years, MTC has been the creative and artistic home for America’s most gifted theatrical artists, producing works of the highest quality by contemporary American and international playwrights. MTC produces eight plays annually in Broadway’s restored Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on West 47th Street and off Broadway at the historic NY City Center complex on West 55th Street.
The Director, Special Events is a key position in MTC’s Development Department. Reporting to the Director of Development, this position oversees the planning and execution of the Special Events program. The Director plans all MTC annual and special events including the Spring Gala, Winter Benefit, Special Nights on Broadway, Opening Nights, Patron Nights, trips, annual staff events and other events.
The Director supervises staff and volunteers, oversees the creation and printing of all event-related materials; locates venues; negotiates contracts; coordinates budgets; selects menus; and supervises seating and ticketing.
The ideal candidate with have: a bachelor’s degree and at least 3-5 years development office experience in a comparable institution are required. Development events management experience strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will also possess excellent interpersonal skills; superior organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and strong computer skills (database experience with Tessitura a plus).
This is a full time, salaried position with excellent benefits.
