The Sunday Giveaway: Two tickets to Rantoul and Die and a free Frozen Yogurt!

Oh, the Amoralists are at it again!

Not only do they have a new play by Mark Roberts, and therefore two free tickets for a fortunate reader, they also have a little bonus to give away as well (kind of like on those late-night informercials that give you the pair of scissors and a plastic statue of a gnome when you buy the whole set of steak knives).  Yep, from the company that gave away a gun (!), a flask . . . now comes two tickets to see Rantoul and Die . . . and a gift card for a free frozen yogurt from Victory Garden in the West Village.

It’s Dinner Dessert Theater!

Here’s how the FroYo figures into the plot of Rantoul and Die:

Rallis and Debbie’s marriage has reached its expiration date. In fact, it’s soured and stuck to the bottom of the carton. She wants him to pack his stuff and hit the bricks, but he’s clinging to the past like a cat on a screen door. How far will a man go to hang onto his lady? It’s a thin line between love and hate. A kiss and a punch. An ice cream cone and a beer bottle to the back of the head.

Alright, who wants yogurt?!?!?

Here’s how to win:

I’ve often said that our customers on Broadway and Off Broadway are not price resistant.  They are value resistant.

So, what do you think the most valuable extra add-on is that we could give to our customers to help them convert into a ticket buyer?  Free parking?  Early admission to the theater?  Backstage tour?

Go on, get creative . . . it can be anything . . . even a statue of a plastic gnome?  Comment below what you think could sell more Broadway tickets and one of you will get to eat some sweet cold custardy dessert . . . and see a new play too!

Plus, full price ticket holders can have their t-shirts or posters autographed by cast members.

      • Elisa Christina Clayton says:

However, if a benefit-cost analysis does not support giving away merchandise (i.e. t-shirts and posters, etc.) then perhaps autographed playbills by cast members will do the trick.

  • How about two or three songs (in the case of a musical) available for free download when downloading from within the theater?

Is there a way to do that? There must be.

  • Karen says:

    actual two-fers

  • Karen says:

Or how about if you are producing more than one show in NYC have the ticket stub be a 25% or 30% discount to your other shows?

A variation on what’s been said-but would only work with institutional theatres or theatre owners: If you buy two tkts for a Tues/Wed/Thurs you get 2 for 1 on a Tues/Wed/Thurs for another show at that theatre during the next months

  • Cara says:

Meet and Greets, VIP at Stage Door. Discounts on public transportation

  • Bryan Austermann says:

People always like to feel special, so I think a one-on-one (or one-on-group) with the star of the show would entice people to cough up the dollar dollar bills yall.

  • Paul Argentini says:

We all know the art of gift giving is to have the gift look way-way-way more than it really costs–whatever the budget.
F’r’instance, at a restaurant, I always leave a nice tip. Then, I add a $1.00 lottery ticket. Never do I get more effusive “thank you’s” than when I do that.
Give theatre ticket buyers 1-2-5 lottery tickets where they think they may become millionaires! What’s your best night? Friday? Saturday? Give ’em one lottery ticket. Your worst? Matinee? Give ’em five! Cheaper than paying for parking. Positive believers. Now think of the publicity when one of your theatre goers wins the lottery with the “free” ticket! Right? Right! But, Ken, it’s always all right.
Autograph hounds? Have the theatre folk autograph the lottery ticket!

  • Discounts on babysitters or reference to daycares!

  • Brian says:

The option to exchange for a better seat if available on the day of performance.

  • John Dallal says:

Maybe an opportunity to have your picture
    taken with a Broadway celeb.

  • John P. says:

Voucher for two free drinks at intermission

  • Barbara says:

There would be a raffle at every show for a gift basket with an autographed playbill, treats, related merchandise, etc, presented to the lucky winner by the star of the show. Every seat number has a number and this number and location would be the customers “ticket.” Would be given before the show. But everyone’s a winner! Every playbill has a voucher or “code” that corresponds to free “something” be it a drink, discount on merchandise or discount at for future shows. Maybe there’s even a Golden ticket (thank you Willy Wonka,) in one lucky playbill good for a meet and greet with the stars of the play. Or a standard Two-fer Tuesdays! Every Tuesday, you can get two for one tickets in select locations. And a special rewards system. Tell-a-Friend about a show and get credit for it. If you’ve recommended a show to a friend and they’ve attended it, you get a “Star”. Twenty stars equal a discount on your next show. Or how about a Broadway “passport.” Get your passport stamped at every Broadway show. Once you’ve hit 10, or 20 shows, (to be determined), you are deemed a star of Broadway and your name is in lights at the theatre of your choice for a night (or inside the theatre on a screen).
Have special birthday party packages: discount on tickets, special t-shirts made up and the birthday boy or girl gets a signed playbill. Will think of more!

  • Terrence Cranert says:

Meet and greet with the cast.

  • Kate B says:

Free appetizers or drink at a local bar/restaurant

  • Alexa says:

A costume designer and stylist to show up at your home and dress you in some fabulous outfits/hairstyles relavant to the show. After the performance pictures would be taken with the cast to make it look like you were a part of the production.

  • Bunny says:

People love prize drawings and the cast doesn’t have to add one more thing to an already busy schedule. Signed Playbills and posters are heavily used during the fall BC/EFA fundraisers. If Telecharge or Ticketmonster would do it, there could be a drawing for a dollar amount or percentage off future buys. More fun than winning $5 or $10 and cheaper. Scanned tickets should be used for more info, could easily give you the information about what seats are actually filled. Maybe some incentive to share age and state of ticket sitters vs buyers could be worked out…. StubHub etc. have a lot of the best tix, who knows what physical relation those buyers have to the location of the attendees.

  • Ruth Post says:

Well…if it’s for a woman theatre-goer, how about a free skip to the front of the restroom line!?

  • Cheryl Dzubak says:

Not creative, but a chance to have a meet and greet after the show to talk to the actors would be nice.

  • Stephanie Ross says:

A gift card that doesn’t expire, of at least $25. To be used at the theatre’s merchandise booth or bar; or to buy tickets at that theatre – to see the same performance a second time, or to see the next performance that takes up residency.

Or, if there was a way to track one person’s ticket purchases for all Broadway and Off-Broadway shows — some sort of “Buy 3 or more tickets to 3 or more shows within 30 days, get 2 tickets for free.” And there could be a list of shows to choose from, for those free tickets. Like a frequent flyer club.

  • Noemi de la Puente says:

A backstage photo opp with the stars of the show – people love the photo stuff, and would post it all over their FB pages, and tweet it, and give you more publicity for your show.

  • nanc Koan says:

    cab fare both ways
artwork or poem, etc done by theatre goers, judged by play’s star…each week a different person wins..everyone else gets 25 percent off for entering

Pay your age unless it’s over 60 then pay half

  • Kyle Abraham says:

    Free, convenient, and safe parking

  • A kissing booth featuring the stars of the show.

  • Front row lap dances & free cotton candy.

  • says:

I think you should have ” experiences” that
you can bundle and sell with the ticket. Like
after the play perform a page from the play
with a cast member or get a chance to take
pictures on the set or in costumes from a play. Anything that is available only if one buys the
    ticket through a certain outlet.

  • Stephen says:

Echoing another parent’s suggestion – but babysitting services would be great. Playwrights Horizons had a grant two years ago that gave you free babysitting as a subscriber of $15 babysitting for regular ticket holders. They were also allied with Signature and West Side Theatre – it was fantastic.

  • Ryan McCurdy says:

For musicals: A digital download code for the soundtrack (even in an abridged or greatest hits version).
For plays: A Kindle download of the script.

  • Rachel Endick says:

A voucher for a free song of their choice from the show on iTunes! I know I always walk out of a musical with a song or two stuck in my head and immediately go home and purchase it/them. This will get audience members to the soundtrack page, and maybe it’ll cause people to purchase the entire soundtrack (thus boosting those sales, as well!)

  • Emily V says:

I would be more likely to buy a full price ticket to a show if it made me part of some kind of ticket club with rewards, like being entered into a raffle for free tickets to another show every time I bought a full price ticket. Or maybe something more akin to frequent flier miles that could eventually be used to get a free to discounted ticket to your slower nights.

  • Mary M says:

Throw in a discount to dinner w/the tickets & I think you’ll have more Broadway ticket buyers.

  • Geri W says:

A free drink at the door. 🙂 That should work.

  • Jonathan Bach says:

Sell tickets to individual acts or songs. If I have rehearsal from 3:30pm until 8:30pm, I would definitely go watch the first act of a show before rehearsal, and the second act of that show when my rehearsal ends.

  • David anderson says:

I only want to go to shows when I can get good tickets. Price isn’t my biggest concern. How about a way to notify folks about upcoming shows and offer only the best seats in advance. I do get advanced notice of shows but then I have to go on a website and look at the house seating. Keep it simple for folks like me. Tell me in advance, tell me the price and give me a link where I can order, knowing I’m getting good seats. In the last two years I have bailed on many more shows while trying to order tickets then I have seen.
