The Sunday Giveaway: Two Tickets to Violet on Broadway!
I want to win this giveaway.
I was working on the short-lived Hal Prince directed and Garth “I just got out of prison” Drabinsky produced Candide when Violet premiered at Playwrights Horizons, and just couldn’t get over there to see it. It, along with the original Angels in America and a couple of others, are on my, “I can’t believe I missed that!” list.
Luckily, we’re all going to get another shot.
Just like the lead character in the musical, Violet has taken a long road to Broadway, with a reunion concert in 2003, and the Encores!Off-Center production last summer . . . which launched it on to Broadway this spring.
Previews began just two days ago, and I’m already hearing some pretty exciting things that make me super anxious to see it. And, well, it stars Sutton Foster, so . . . there’s that.
And since I’m technically ineligible to win the two tickets we have to give away, I guess that means one of you will have to win!
Ready to enter? Here’s how . . .
The City Center Encores! Off-Center series, dedicated to reviving choice Off-Broadway pieces in the same way the Encores series brings back the ole chestnut Broadway shows, is what got Violet back on everyone’s radar and on to Broadway. And it has only been around one year?
Comment below with the name of an Off Broadway show that should now get a shot on Broadway . . . and extra credit if you cast it.
Simple! So go and good luck!
P.S. Can’t wait to see if you win? Get a discount ticket to Violet by clicking here.

FUN HOME!! With the original Public cast
Queen of the Night. Two of my bosses went to see it and RAVED.
Fun Home!
I can’t believe that I missed Fun Home. I recently read Alison Bechdel’s incredible graphic novel that it’s based on and rooting for it to make it on a Broadway more than ever.
I’d also love to see David Cromer’s 2008 production of The Adding Machine musical brought to Broadway, maybe with Michael Cerveris as Mr. Zero and Patti Lupone as Mrs. Zero.
Altar Boyz. Hands down.
I still can’t believe The Last Five years has never made it to Broadway! Jeremy Jordan and Laura Osnes would make a perfect pair for this two-hander!!
The Off-Broadway show that should get a shot at Broadway? Easy– HEATHERS the musical by Larry O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy, opening tomorrow night at New World Stages. In the title roles, I’d cast Jessica Keenan Wynn as Heather Chandler, Elle McLemore as Heather Macnamara, and Alice Lee as Heather Duke. For the roles of Veronica Sawyer and J.D., I’d cast Barrett Wilbert Weed and Ryan McCartan, respectively. A Broadway production of HEATHERS would be so VERY!
Little Miss Sunshine. With Stephanie J Block of course.
Dark Water the MTWorks production that just closed Off Broadway. Personally was not in this production but I am a member of the Company.
Batboy – Great score, funny & fun script. NYC was still healing from 9/11 when Batboy debuted so the show never was as popular as it deserved to be . Aaron Tviet would be an incredible Batboy and maybe he will finally get the Tony nomination he deserves after getting snubbed for Catch me… and Next To Normal.
I can think of two Michael John LaChiusa musicals which should make their way to Broadway – Maid of the Mist with Mary Testa and GIANT.
Sorry – That’s Queen of the Mist!
LOL Naked Boys Singing starring John Holmes and you can be my guest Ken!
The Last Five Years… Starring Sutton Foster and Norm Lewis!
Yank! starring Bobby Steggert
BATBOY!!!!! One of my favs… The timing was unfortunate with 9/11. This one needs another shot!!
Dogfight! It was such a thought provoking show with an amazing, memorable score. Would be great to bring it to Broadway with Derek Klena and Lindsay Mendez still involved!
Yes, Dogfight a great choice!!!
Altar Boyz! It’s one of my favorite shows
Dogfight! The score is phenomenal! I would have to stick with the original cast of Lindsay Mendez as Rose and Derek Klena as Eddie. The connection between the two on stage is unparalleled and I would love to see it on Broadway.
Andrew Lippa’s “The Wild Party” … Original cast could still be great, but I’d love to see Billy Porter take a turn as Black.
Another of my favorites I would love to see this too!
I think Tick Tick Boom needs a comeback!
I would love to see the hilarious ‘The Toxic Avenger’ transfer to Broadway, with the recent regional (Texas, I think?) cast of Constantine Maroulis, Mitch Jarvis, and of course Nancy Opel reprising her incredible off-Bway role…she could totally win a Tony. 🙂
I’m so stoked to see this show!
JASPER IN DEADLAND deserves a shot on broadway… But I would also bet my two winning tickets that it WILL get its chance in the near future.
Hello Again by Michael John LaChiusa
Directed by Bartlett Sher
Choreography by Bill T. Jones
Costumes by William Ivey Long
Scenic Design by Mark Wendland
Light Design by Natasha Katz
The Whore- Sara Ramirez
The Soldier- Derek Klena
The Nurse- Leslie Kritzer
The College Boy- Jay Armstrong Johnson
The Young Wife- Ramona Mallory
The Husband- Norm Lewis
The Young Thing- Matt Doyle
The Writer- Raul Esparaza
The Actress- Rachel Bay Jones
The Senator- Patrick Wilson
BAT BOY would be hugely well-received in today’s market. Funny, off-beat, and featuring a wonderful score, it never quite got the recognition it deserved. Rachel Bay Jones would be an interesting choice for Meredith, and you’ve got a slew of options for the title role.
I’d really like to see something by Peter Mills move forward to a larger production. His GOLDEN BOY OF THE BLUE RIDGE, which ran at 59E59 in 2009, was a gorgeous bluegrass retelling of PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD. Check it out on on iTunes or Spotify if you’re unfamiliar. Also worth a listen are his ILLYRIA and THE FLOOD.
Are we talking strictly musicals? Because the most recent run of Transport Group’s ALMOST MAINE was glorious. I’d love to see it have an extended life and a larger audience. Donna Lynne Champlin was brilliant.
I’d love to see Alex Timbers direct “REEFER MADNESS”… can you imagine? The cast of the 2005 film adaptation could reprise their roles (Kristen Bell as Mary! Ana Gasteyer as Mae! Alan Cumming as The Lecturer!). Maybe Broadway could use a little more… irreverence?
Let’s get Stephen Sondheim back on Broadway with Road Show. How about rotating the cast and mix and match Michael Cerveris, Alexander Gemignani, Howard McGillin and Richard Kind.
The Last Five Years! With Norbert Leo Butz and Kate Baldwin (Big Fish reunion!)
Kronburg 1582 or Rockabye Hamlet with Stephen fry and hugh Laurie as Rosencrantz and guildenstern, and Norm Lewis as Claudius and Audra McDonald as Gertrude and Ramin karimloo as Hamlet!
Bat Boy! Bat Boy! Bat Boy!
My own show, THE KID — starring Neil Patrick Harris as Dan Savage! (We can dream …)
Floyd Collins, with Matthew Morrison as the title character.
LUCKY STIFF!!!!
Annabel: Kristen Chenoweth
Mr. Witherspoon: Sean Hayes
Rita: Kate Finneran
(The odd thing about this is that I didn’t even realize all these people were in Promises Promises until after I wrote out my cast list!)
Oh, and Mary Testa as the Landlady because she was amazing in the original production and deserves a role in my made up Broadway version!
A two-person Musical of Musicals (the musical) starring Kristin Chenoweth and Christopher Fitzgerald. Would be a tour-de-force!
Venice broke my heart this summer. (In a good way) The Public Theater cast was fantastic. I would love to see that on Broadway!
Robert Askin’s Hand to God
The same cast as at the Lucille Lortel
At the very least:
Steven Boyer – Jason/Tyrone
Sarah Stiles – Jessica
HERE LIES LOVE. It would be a game-changer if it makes it to Broadway. It would rightfully make huge stars of the (mostly) Filipino cast.
I would love to direct a revival of RUTHLESS! The Musical
Starring…
Bernadette Peters as Judy Denmark
Mx Justin Vivian Bond as Sylvia St. Croix
Christine Pedi as Lita Encore
Susie Mosher as Ms Thorn/Ms Block
Celia Keenan-Bolger as Louise/Eve
and Lila Crawford as Tina Denmark
Kirsten Child’s musical The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin with the original cast
This is a difficult one, because just about anything that’s any good has already transferred, either in its original run or (as is the trend lately) years later (think “Charlie Brown”, “Little Shop” and this year’s “Hedwig” and “Violet”.) Many good ideas have already been floated, and the best one I can think of was announced at one point but seems to have faded out of the picture: Dames At Sea with a cast of complete unknowns. (Okay, not unknown to us, but to the general public.) Or possibly Kristin Chenoweth starring in “Little Mary Sunshine”. 😀
I would want to see “Promenade” produced on Broadway. With myself in the role of Miss I. And perhaps Kristin Chenoweth as the Servant.
I’d love to see Sleep No More move to Broadway! Is the Great White Way ready for immersive theatre? Only one way to find out…
Dogfight! And please Lord let the original cast reprise their roles!
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS… no that’s already been done. HEDWIG… no already there too… Hmm…
I agree with those who say BAT BOY and REEFER MADNESS!!! But to come up with my own answer…
THE LAST SESSION
with
Raul Esparza as Gideon
Mary Testa as Vicki
Stephen Bienskie as Buddy
Mitchell Jarvis as Jim
Patina Miller as Tryshia
Saturday Night by Sondheim…. His very early work but you have some outstanding young newcomers to theatre who would be great I this. Ben Fankhauser, Jason Gotay and if you go to the CCM showcase on April 7 you will hear some of the best male voices coming from college in a long time!
Reefer Madness! Timing is everything and it didn’t get to have a life at all, but now it’s a cult classic.
STOMP.
NO WAIT….IT’S STILL RUNNING. LOL
VAMPIRE LESBIANS OF SODOM…
Pokemon Live should be brought to Broadway.
Ash – Jeremy Jordan
Misty- Laura Osnes
Brock – Gavin Creel
Team Rocket – Annaleigh Ashford and Andrew Ranelles
Pikachu – The boy from Matilda who eats all the cake
Avenue Q (with maybe some SNL cast members once in a while)!!!
I’d like to see Blood [By The Mummers]; it was part of the NYMF Festival in 2011 and selected “next link”. I’d love to see it with the original cast! It was clever, hilarious and infectious.
A side note:
I was in a production of Violet in high school. I played Monty but was always jealous that Flick got to song “Let it sing”; I love that song! I would love to win the tickets.
Edward Albee’s “Three Tall Women,” starring Angela Lansbury, Judith Light, and Celia Keenan-Bolger as A, B, and C, respectively.
Floyd Collins, please!
Floyd Collins on Broadway!!
Oh.. starring Steven Pasquale after “Bridges” closes.
In Trousers starring Adam Chanler-Berat as Marvin.
I want to see Enter Laughing, which was rumored to be headed for a transfer from The York Theatre, to finally make that leap with the York cast. That score deserves a big showbiz Broadway orchestra.
Except that it started life as the Broadway Show, “So Long, 174th Street” from 1976
I have a bunch –
I’d love to see either, or both at some point, of these shows go into the Circle in the Square:
Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812
Here Lies Love
I also have a sweet spot for Playwrights Horizons. I see most of my Off Broadway shows there.
I think these ones definitely deserve a shot:
Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play
Stage Kiss
The Big Meal
Assistance
The Whale
Maple and Vine
Good stuff! I like this game.
GUTENBURG! with Josh Gad and Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Have you ever read the short story by Doris Betts on which Violet is based? The Ugliest Pilgrim. It’s excellent!
The Last Five Years with the upcoming movie cast Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan
Happiness with Louise Pitre
Three Guys Naked From the Waist Down
Little known 80s musical- and the 80s are hot right now, no? Mano Felciano, Bobby Steggert, and Will Swenson would make for an interesting trio.
I’m Getting My Act Together and Taking it on the Road…starring the one and only Sutton Foster
Altar Boyz, starring Neill Patrick Harris.
Das Barbecu with Sutton Foster as Getrune.
Toxic Avenger, starring Diana De Garmo (whom I saw on Off-Broadway and was excellent) and her husband, Ace Young of American Idol fame. (A good singer and easy on the eyes!)
Fun/Home.
With the same cast.
or…
Bat Boy
THE WILD PARTY ANDREW LIPPA
Lippa’s “The Wild Party”.
ONCE ON A SUMMERS DAY – this was in 1984 so don’t know if you can decide if it makes sense. Amazing cast including Nick Wyman and David Purdham about the relationship between Alice Liddle and Charles Dodson. Casting now.. Dodson Bobbie Steggart, Grown Alice – Kelli O’Hara, The Mad Hatter – Doug Sills
I’d love to see CHARLOTTE SWEET make her Broadway debut!
“Songs For A New World”
Jeremy Jordan
Diana DeGarmo
Idina Menzel
Billy Porter
I think Bare needs revival. Could even play in rep with Doubt! Much like Spring Awakening it should have new talent, not names. Sutton got her break creating a role, Bare lends itself more to the characters and the score than a name and should be afforded the opportunity to create new stars.
Far From Heaven! And I’ll keep the original Playwrights Horizons cast. Kelli O’Hara and Steven Pasquale are a perfect match.
“Dogfight” with the original cast
Fun Home with the off Broadway cast. Perfection!
KUNG FU by David Henry Hwang (now at the Signature Theater)!
Reefer Madness NEEDS to be on Broadway pronto!
My cast….
The Lecturer-Alan Cumming
Jimmy-Andy Mientus
Mary Lane-Lea Michelle
Mae-Patina Miller
Sally-Annaleigh Ashford
Jack-Jeremy Jordan
Jesus-Andrew Rannels
I think Avenue Q cast with.., the Muppets! is a colossal idea for Broadway.
A New Brain!
Gordon – Andrew Rannells
Mr. Bungee – Nathan Lane
Rhoda – Stephanie J. Block
Waitress – Cristin Milioti
Heathers! Opens tomorrow off-Broadway, but I saw it in previews and it’s fantastic! I would use the original cast- they’re amazing.
JB Priestley’s forgotten 1935 play “Cornelius” – Any Great Ensemble will do??
I would love to see “jon & jen” on Broadway.
I’m pretty sure that Carolee Carmello and Jimmy Ludwig could reprise their roles, but I could also see Stephanie J. Block or Kate Baldwin or Rachel Bay Jones and Jeremy Jordan or Santino Fontana or Derek Klena.
Nunsense… Just fun and makes people laugh! Also would still sell out and would be great on broadway!
Bat Boy with Jesse Tyler Ferguson !
I have been thinking about this for an entire year!
“A New Brain”
I think that with a new generations perspective, it might be able to achieve the depth that it needed to fly off the ground.
I believe DISASTER should move to Broadway. It is hilarious and deserves a better theater. Cast Jennifer Simard as she steals the show and Mary Testa. In fact, cast the original cast which included John Treacy Egan.
Corine
You’d have to be blind as a bat not to see how wonderful it would be the bring Bat Boy to Broadway. I took everyone who came to town to see Bat Boy. And saw it so many times.
An actor like a young Jeremy Jordon would be the perfect Bat Boy
A really obscure choice, but the very best Off-Broadway play I have ever seen, period. “The Last Days of the Dixie Girl Cafe” from 1979. I would be in heaven if this was ever revived.
Bat Boy or the Last Five Years, for sure.
Just saw “Open House,” and think it’s Broadway worthy, with the current cast.
There is a wonderful musical written by Barry Wyner called “Calvin Berger” that has an amazing score based on (depending how old you are, the movie “Roxanne” which is based on Cyrano de bergerac). It has some fantastic musical numbers that will blow your socks off!!! The closest it came to Broadway was the George Street Playhouse in Jersey!
Now that Idina Menzel is back on the boards, how about SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE by Michael John LaChiusa? I would love to see the following cast, which is primarily the same as it was at the Public:
Will Chase for (Aaron Lohr)
Marc Kudisch
Dennis O’Hare (for Henry Stram)
Idina Menzel
Mary Testa
It’s such a powerful ensemble piece that would really make each of those five shine in their respected roles in the three stories.
Saw Dogfight 3 times during its run Off-Broadway and always wished it came to Broadway with that incredible cast!
Yank!- perhaps the revised version they were working with David Cromer on. I saw the workshop of it, and it was spectacular. Loved Bobby Steggart and Santino Fontana.
“A Man of No Importance.”
I would love to see that show redone.
Trixie True Teen Detective. What a fun show that was and I have no doubt would play to a larger Broadway house. Not sure if you know the show, but its a hysterically funny take on Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys series in a sort of Little Shop of Horrors vain. Its both clever and deliciously crazy.
Now, as for casting… Miss Snood, originally played by Marilyn Sokol would be a hoot if played by Bette Midler (wouldn’t that be amazing casting). Trixie would be well served by a whole slew of zany over-the-top young actresses. If we’re going for “star” casting, how about Miley Cyrus. She’d have to tone down the sexuality, but leave the zany exactly where it is.
I’d bring back BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG CITY, which was at NYTW in 99. I never got to see the production, but I absolutely love the recording that features Patrick Wilson and Jesse L. Martin.
Jamie: Adam Kantor (Rent, Last Five Years)
perfect for a brilliant, pained loner
Tad: Ben Thompson (Matilda, Carrie, American Idiot)
big charming presence and booming belt
Vicky: Betsy Wolfe (Drood, Last Five Years)
heartwarming, quirky, sweet, sassy, wistful
Michael: Adam Chanler-Berat (Peter and the Starcatcher, Next to Normal)
heartbreaking, innocent, sweet-voiced
Mother: Annemarie Milazzo
If she could be convinced to come back to the part! She sings the hell out of this part.
Amanda: Stephanie Gibson (Cinderella, Addams Family)
the perfect model type and dancer
Clara: Sherie Rene Scott (Everyday Rapture, Aida)
a wink and a nod since she was the CD’s Vicky
Mary O’Brien McCann: Molly Ranson (Carrie)
Coma Baby: Lindsay Mendez (Wicked, Dogfight)
Chuck Bean: Chuck Cooper (The Life, Caroline or Change)
Employee: Richard Kind (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels)
I’d love it if he reprised his role from the CD. I love his work!
1) Fun Home
2) Bat Boy — Saw this show in a tiny theater in LA over 15 years ago. Still remember it. No budget, just an interesting, fresh story and the music was pretty good. I kept thinking “this should move to NY.”
Once Upon a Mattress with Cyndi Lauper as Princess Winnifred
Heathers the Musical!
One of the greatest scores of all time, Floyd Collins. And I would listen to Will Chase sing anything, but I think his voice would be particularly suited to this music.
My age is going to show here…but I would love to see Oil City Symphony again. NYUers in the late ’80s might recall its 2 (?) year run down at the old Circle Downtown theatre.
I just recently saw Heathers The Musical at New World stages and I have to say I absolutely loved it. I think although it is extremely campy, the response from the audience was overwhelming and I would see it again.
Many great ones have already been listed, such as Dogfights, The Last Five Years, and Altar Boyz.
But how about the recent redone version of Carrie. I enjoyed that production and would love to see it again.
How about Floyd Collins by Adam Guettel? I think there’s always room for more intelligently written, classically minded theatre these days.
So Hard to choose between Dogfight and Hello Again… but if I HAD to… I would rush right out to see Hello Again with the Transport Group cast and design. Just plop that whole sucker right on Broadway. That was theatre that made me laugh more, feel more, and talk about for a long time. (I’m still talking about it!)
So my vote is to say Hello again to Michael John LaChiusa’s HELLO AGAIN!
The Whore – Nikka Graff Lanzarone
The Soldier – Max von Essen
The Nurse – Elizabeth Stanley
The College Boy – Robert Lenzi
The Young Wife – Alexandra Silber
The Husband – Bob Stillman
The Young Thing – Blake Daniel
The Writer – Jonathan Hammond
The Actress – Rachel Bay Jones
The Senator – Alan Campbell
DAS BARBECU with Kristin Chenoweth and Kristine Nielsen
Bare… The original 2004 Off-Broadway version!
I also still believe that The Last Five Years should play Circle in the Square.
I’m gonna go with CARRIE. I am one of the few that enjoyed it’s most recent Off-Broadway stint. I would love to see it come back- with the proper team of course =)
I Love You You’re Perfect Now Change with Megan Hilty, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Jeremy Jordan and Rob McClure
I agree with those who said Andrew Lippa’s Wild Party. I am so sad I can’t make it to the upcoming 54 below staging
SUMMER OF 42, Hunter Foster/David Kirschenbaum musical that played in Union Square years ago, I think. Get Marsha Norman to rewrite the book, Kelli O’Hara to play the Jennifer O’Neill role.
I would bring “The Last Five Years” to Broadway as it deserves a chance because its such a beautiful show. I would cast Laura Osnes and Colin Donnell in the roles.
Nobody Loves You with the same cast from Second Stage!
I’d vote for Carrie too! With Margo Siebert (Rocky) as Carrie and Patti Lupone as Margaret.
I say Closer than Ever starring Norbert Leo Butz, Marin Mazzie,Alice Ripley, Norm Lewis
Dogfight needs to go to Broadway! I would love to see the full original cast in tact (even though Annaleigh Ashford is being a TV star)!
Fetch Clay, Make Man! I wouldn’t change one person in that cast from the OIff-Broadway run. Nikki M. James can do that and Les Miz right?
I would absolutely go with The Spitfire Grill!
And the following cast would be pretty sweet!
Percy – Laura Osnes
Hannah – Patti LuPone (or Donna Murphy?)
Shelby – Sutton Foster
Caleb – Gavin Creel (or Norbert Leo Butz?)
Sheriff Sutter – Jeremy Jordan
Effy – Carolee Carmello
Eli – Live Schreiber (or Neil Patrick Harris?)
Do it Ken! It would be AWESOME!
I’ve always thought a broadway production of Reefer Madness could work exceptionally well! Get the cast of the film (Christian Campbell, Ana Gasteyer, Kristin Bell, Alan Cumming, Amy Spanger) and you have yourself a hit on your hands!
I propose ignoring the ludicrous Broadway production of ASSASSINS. Let’s pretend that we’re bumping up the brilliant Off-Bway version and recasting as follows:
Balladeer: Jeremy Jordan
Proprietor: Len Cariou
Booth: Raul Esparza
Charles Guiteau: Danny Burstein
Czolgosz: Alexander Hanson
Zangara: Chris Colfer
Oswald: cast an unknown
Samuel Byck: Louis CK
John Hinckley: Matthew James Thomas
Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme: Rachel Bay Jones
Sara Jane Moore: Jane Lynch
Black Angels Over Tuskegee was an enlightening Off Broadway play. George Lucas spent millions on the same story of the Tuskegee Airmen titled “Red Tails”.
I would really like to see 2004’s “Bare” brought to Broadway. This generation of young performers is beyond phenomenal and this show would be perfect to showcase it! Plus with a few timely updates to the book’s references/jokes, the show’s message would still resonate very well.
Daniel Radcliffe- Peter.
Jeremy Jordan- Jason.
Lea Michele- Ivy.
Lindsay Mendez- Nadia.
Derek Klena as Matt.
Jennifer Hudson/Queen Latifah- Sister Chantelle.
Raul Esparza/Norbert Leo Butz as The Priest.
Christiane Noll/Alice Ripley as Claire.
Alice Ripley in A…My Name is Alice
One of the more under-appreciated musicals out there…
Floyd Collins
Starring:
Steven Pasquale as Floyd Collins
Neil Patrick Harris as Skeets Miller
Celia Keenan-Bolger as Nellie Collins
Derek Klena as Homer Collins
tick, tick…BOOM! NEEDS to be recognized (even though it is getting an Encores! performance this year). It’s a great show and after RENT’s success, young audiences would flock to anything Jonathan Larson.
I would love to see Stark Sands as Jon, Sutton Foster as Susan and Norm Lewis as Michael.
‘Handle with Care’ with the ‘Spring Awakening’ leads: Jonathan Groff and John Gallagher, Jr. as the friends and Lea Michele plus Tovah Feldshuh!
I’m going to say WILD PARTY (Lippa’s)and here is why:
1- It already has great following, the word and the jitters would spread faster.
2- It is a great ensemble piece: the stage would be lively and full, unlike many productions that put two people on a huge stage and expect the audience to stay active and concentrated for too long.
3- The characters are all well-rounded, and the score is powerful, so they’d make great Tony Award Candidates, hence the interest across the US and the globe to revive it and tour with it. $$$!
I’d cast Jesse Mueller as Queenie, Hugh Jackman as Burrs, and Steven Pasquale as Black. YUM!
Alter Boyz!
Buyer and Cellar.
All about Barbara Streisand the lead role could be done by Johnny Weire olymic ice skater turned commentator! He would be marvelous!!!
Can’t wait!
TRIBES, by Nina Raine.
The father Christopher: Bryan Cranston
The son Billy: RJ Mitte
The rest of the cast should be unknowns. It will sell out for its entire limited run.
“You can do anything if you set goals. You just have to push yourself.” — RJ Mitte
I Love Your Perfect Now Change
I think John Michael LaChuisa’s “Giant” deserves a Broadway style production. It has an epic scope and is one of Mr. LaChuisa’s most accessible scores. It has name recognition and could use some improvements (something dramatic but not the same to match the film’s scene with Jett striking oil rather than being recounted in the middle of a song)and did indeed have great leads in D’Arcy James and Baldwin. It was a vastly underrated production with what I believe was and is a great score.
What great choices which I agree with but only one person mentioned my all time favorite and I would not change the cast because it was perfect and that is “A Man Of No Importance”
Also Sondheim’s Saturday Night was never done on Broadway. I’d keep Christopher Fitzgerald and I’d cast Jeremy Shamos and his wife Nina Hellman as the married couple. Gene could be Heath Calvert and the love interest could be his wife Aleque Reid. Others in the cast could be: Leslie Kritzer,Bobby Steggart,
Andrew Rannells,
Brigadoon.
Forgot Lock’d
I second Natasha, Pierre, and The Great Comet of 1812 – with the original cast. It won’t be as special in a bigger house, though. But it’s such a special piece of theatre.
I’d also LOVE to see the play Killers and Other Family by Lucy Thurber get a Broadway run with Samantha Soule as Elizabeth. She would win a Tony, hands down!
The quintessential off broadway show – The Fantastics.
With all the positive buzz about Heathers, I would guess that it’s one that should go to Broadway.
Since it is so successful, bring the entire
current cast to a “Broadway” theater.
People have gotten there before me, but I eould really, really like to see YANK finally get to B’way with Bobby Steggart in the lead.
And I also agree with the chorus that BATBOY should finally have his day on B’way. It’s a remarkable bit of writing that got cheated because of 9/11’s effect on the city.
Yank! Definitely Yank! But since three other people have mentioned Yank, The Burnt Part Boys.
I bet someone else already said this, but JASPER IN DEADLAND would just be magical on Broadway. Saw it a few nights ago and was so impressed. The possibilities for the sets and costumes with a Broadway budget would be incredible. And keep the cast – Matt Doyle and Allison Scagliotti were phenomenal.
You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown
Trust by Paul Weitz, which was performed at Second Stage Theatre. I would love to see Nina Arianda as Prudence and perhaps a fresh face for Harry.
I want to see “Home” by Scott Alan come to Broadway.
Eating Raoul, the musical
Eddie Korbich and Courtenay Collins should reprise their roles of Paul and Mary Bland. And Ricky Martin as Raoul.
Dogfight
Great minds think…
Isn’t a DAMES AT SEA revival in the works? I could join the chorus for DOGFIGHT easily. And TRIBES too. But I’m going with the ladies on this one. Thomas Babe’s late 1970s drama TAKEN IN MARRIAGE. A bride-to-be, her sister, their mother, aunt, and a hired entertainer gather for a wedding rehearsal.
The cast I saw: Kathleen Quinlan, Meryl Streep, Colleen Dewhurst, Elizabeth Wilson, Dixie Carter.
The cast I see: Elizabeth Olsen, Marin Ireland, Sigourney Weaver, Kathleen Chalfant, Sherie Rene Scott.
Not a problem-free work, but what an opportunity for a gifted ensemble to snarl and snap away at each other.
I just saw Buyer and Cellar, and it was fabulous.Christopher Hanke was hysterical and so dynamic. In my opinion, that is the Off-Broadway show that should make the leap. Thanks!
I’m really impressed together with your writing skills and also with the structure on your weblog. Is that this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Either way stay up the excellent quality writing, it’s uncommon to see a nice weblog like this one these days..
Deer eat mostly browse (leaves, twigs, shoots of woody plants and vines) and forbs (weeds and other broadleaf flowering plants). They do eat some grass, but only when it is young, green, and succulent. Sheep, goats, and exotic game species compete directly with the whitetail for preferred deer foods. Deer food shortages usually occur during late summer and winter months.
The Sunday Giveaway: Two Tickets to Violet on Broadway! – The Producer’s Perspective
