The Sunday Giveaway: Two tickets to Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times at the NY Philharmonic!

Here’s one of the more unique theatrical giveaways we’ve ever had here on a Sunday!  And I gotta say, I wanna win!

My father introduced me to the classic Charlie Chaplin film Modern Times back in my pre-teen days, and I remember being blown away by the comedy, but also the social statement that the movie was making simultaneously.  I’ll admit my father had to explain it to me . . . but it didn’t take me too long to get it.

That was the genius of Chaplin (and why there was a musical about him)  . . . he was the ultimate artist because he could make films like Modern Times and The Great Dictator which could be enjoyed only on their surface, or you could peel back the gags and pratfalls and find levels and levels of the deepest depths.

And that, my friends, should be the mission of all of us who create and produce theater and art.  Entertain first, educate without anyone even knowing.

This giveaway is a chance for you to see this classic film at the beautiful Avery Fisher Hall on September 19th.

But wait, there’s more!

The NY Philharmonic Orchestra is going to play the score the film . . . LIVE . . . while you watch!  No scratchy, monotone soundtrack this time . . . you’re going to hear this score played by the best musicians in the world (Take that London Phil!).  For more info on the perf, click here.

Fun, right?

(I think this might the coolest date idea ever, by the way – you’d look smart and artsy and it’s still dinner and a “movie” so for all you single folks, invite your next “Tinder” date to this sucker.)

So how do you ‘score’ these tix?

What movie musical would you like to watch on film, with the NY Phil playing along?  For me, it’s West Side, hands down.

What about you?  Comment your answer below and one of you will win!  Good luck!
