Fun on a Friday: For Freshman Only

Calling all ‘shmen!

Don’t worry, no hazing happening here.  Just a fun video from Carnegie Mellon’s class of 2017 aimed at all those new BFA students around the country who are probably still shaking in their tap shoes as their first week on campus comes to a close.

What I love about this video is that it’s “user generated” content, instead of university generated.  I remember my first year at Tisch, and boy, I would have loved to hear how to survive my first year from students who had just gone through it.  I also remembering telling other people I was in a BFA program and getting that “What an easy degree!” look.  One dude even said, “You just sit around and play duck-duck-goose all day and then cry about your feelings!”

I wanted to punch him in the face and see how he cried about that!

It may seem like singin’ and dancin’ all day, but anyone who has been through it knows it’s intensive hours of study, combined with outside hours of rehearsal, as you work alongside some of the most talented people in the country as you wonder, “Am I good enough?”

So whether you’re a freshman yourself, or know someone who is, watch the vid.  And thank the students of CMU for lookin’ out for their own. (If you’re an email subscriber and you can’t see the video, click here.)
