Why I hired a trainer.

I’ve always been in “ok” shape.

But when I turned forty, I decided I wanted to be in better shape.

In fact, I knew if I wanted to live the type of life I wanted to live for the next four decades, I had to be in better shape.

So I started taking steps in order to do that.

I did one of those on-demand fitness videos. It was pretty good. But then I just stopped doing it.

I ordered some home exercise equipment that I could use at my office. Did that for a week. Now the equipment sits in the corner. I told a guest recently that they were props from a show I did.

And that’s when I realized that I needed help. I needed structure. I needed accountability. I needed someone to push me on a regular basis.

I needed a trainer.

So I hired one . . . and for the past year I’ve seen him twice a week, and I can honestly say I’ve never been in better shape.

Now, look, as you probably already guessed, I’m a guy with some pretty good willpower. If I set my mind to something, creating a show, raising money, lowering my golf handicap, I’m going to do it, by God.

But even I check out sometimes. Don’t you? It’s hard getting sweaty. It’s hard sitting down in front of your computer and finishing that script. It’s hard making calls to raise money to fund your show.

It’s much, much, much, easier to not do any of those things.

But if we want the life and the career that we all dream about, we have to find a way to get motivated to do them.

And it’s hard to do it alone.

So if you really want success, you gotta get someone to help stay on track. Call it a trainer, a coach, a teacher . . . there’s a reason these people exist.

Because they work.

So, I came up with an idea.

When I have a consult meeting with a client, I always give them three action items to accomplish to help get their show off the ground after the leave the meeting.

The problem is . . .  I don’t hold them accountable.  They don’t have to show up the next day or even the next week and show me their work. It could be very easy for them to not do any of the things that we discussed. And if they did do them, they probably had a slew of additional questions, because taking action creates more possibilities and more paths for you to take. Right?

Or worse . . . how many clients hit a dead end? Or run out of steam? Or just say, “Eh. I’ll do it later. What’s on TV?”

That’s why I started a Personal Training Program for the Theater. 🙂

What’s that, you say?

When you join the program, you get a one hour coaching session with me each and every month for twelve months. You’ll have homework. And you’ll do it, because you know you’ve got to show up next month and show me your stuff. And then we’ll come up with more action items. And you’ll do it all over again.

And there is no question, that at the end of the 12 months, your theater career will be worlds ahead of where it would be if you just called me for a quickie consult every once in a while.

In other words, you’ll be in better shape. 🙂

Over the course of the twelve months, you’ll finish that script, raise that money, produce that show . . . whatever you want to do, you’ll be closer to doing it. Guaranteed.

And I know you want that.

When you become a coaching client, not only do you save money on your hourly consults, but you also become a top tier client, and get invited to exclusive networking events, shows, and more.

And, as a special offer to Training Program Clients, if something comes up that can’t wait until our meeting, I offer unlimited email support throughout the month. Just pop me an email and ask your question, and I’ll respond within 24 hours.

As you can probably imagine, my time is a little tight these days. So, I am limiting my number of coaching clients to TEN individuals who are super serious about where they want to be in a year.

I look forward to getting to work, and making this the year that we get your theatrical career in the best shape it’s ever been.

Boy will people be jealous.

P.S. Take a look at what other folks have said about training with me:

“I think about my consultation with Mr. Davenport practically every day. He was so encouraging and easy to talk to, and he motivated me so much.” – Shannen Rae

“I left the office with a much clearer vision of my next move. I have a renewed excitement for starting the process of getting this show produced.” – Jennifer Weston

“I have to confess that I came very close to canceling the meeting. The most cynical part of me was equating you with those guys who promise to teach you how to make a fortune in the stock market if you only buy their book or take their course or something. But it was worth it to meet the guy who’d written so many smart things in the blog I’d been reading for the past two years. I fully expected to come away feeling that only my curiosity had been satisfied. I was dead wrong. Not only was Ken a true gentleman and genuinely interested in helping me, he turned me on to a chunk of wisdom that is turning me around.
I owe him one. I owe him two!” – Jeff Jackson
