Where to apply without the Fringe Festival.
As you may have heard, for the first time in 20 years, there will be no Fringe Festival this year! (Click here to read the full story) AGH! What’s an emerging writer to do?
Well, fear not, there are other options out there.
And I’m betting that one, in particular, is going to get a big bump in notoriety with the Fringe out of the way.
That festival is the Midtown International Theatre Festival which is currently accepting submissions now. (They even canceled their spring festival because they knew that their summer could be huge.)
As you know I’m a big believer in festival productions (I’ve produced shows in festivals that have transferred, found writers in festivals, etc.). And even if you’re not sure whether you want to produce your show in a festival, why not at least apply and decide later. I believe success is about having options. So apply, and you can figure out what you want to do when you get in. Just like applying to college!
I do expect that the MITF is going to be flooded with applications this year, so because you’re on my writer list, I wanted to make sure you had a heads up and got your show in early.
And good luck!
P.S. Just finished reading Story for the 3rd time. Such a great reminder of how to structure a show. If you haven’t read it at least once, I strongly recommend it.
