Theater Law you need to know, without going to law school.
I was nervous.
I didn’t know why. Maybe it was the fancy Madison Avenue address. Or the fancy furniture in the waiting room. Or maybe it was just because I was about to see a lawyer.
Lawyers mean serious business. They deal with The Law, after all. And you and I have seen enough Law & Order to know that we’re all just a few wrong answers to the right lawyer away from sharing a cell at Rikers Island with a dude whose prison nickname is “Shank Tank.”
Lawyers have degrees. They wear suits. They have an “Authority” that can make everyone just a bit nervous. Including me, on this day, many years ago, when I had my first meeting about the legal steps I needed to take to open my own production company and produce my very first show.
And I was nervous about half way through the meeting . . . until I remembered something super important.
This lawyer worked for me! He was MY employee! After all, I was paying his super high hourly rate.
A switch went off in my mind at that very moment, and I haven’t looked back since. I started asking questions, taking notes, and learning everything I could about the laws, regulations, and traditions that govern the theater industry, and even poking at those traditions to see what we can do to bring our business into the 21st century.
And I don’t get nervous anymore.
You shouldn’t either. But if you are, or if you just want to understand more of the basic legal tenets of the theater industry, you should join me on my webinar, Theater Law You Need To Know.
In this hour long course, you’ll learn:

- The MOST important legal thing you must do before you launch your show . . . anywhere.
- The basket of legal documents every show requires, from collaboration agreements to operating agreements, and more.
- How much does legal work cost? (And how to get it for less!)
- How to avoid getting sued (trust me – you don’t want this to happen to you).
And lots more, including some of the legal mistakes I made and how I’d do them differently (and how my mistakes can help you save tons of money). And as always, we’ll save some time for your lawyerly questions and answers (it’ll be like a cross exa
