Broadway Grosses w/e 6/25/2017 – Indecent leads a Non Indecent Week!

Nothing like a little scarcity to drive some ticket sales, am I right?

Playgoers seemed to vanish this past spring.  Well, that’s probably not true.  They’re all probably just wearing dark glasses and fake mustaches and are buying tickets to all the musicals in town.

But tell them that something that they’ve heard is fantastic is about to close, and they rip off those disguises to show up and support.

Of course, I’m talking about Indecent, which had posted a closing notice for this past Sunday . . . and then tore it down, as tickets sold like hotcakes at a hotcake convention in Hotcake City.  Their final number was over $600k, as they now continue their run into the summer.

It was a good week for plays overall, as Oslo did a cool 700k on the heels of its Tony win, Present Laughter (soon to be available on BroadwayHD) grossed $850k, A Doll’s House Part II did over $500k, and Sweat did over $400k.

Maybe the playwrights’ bit on the Tony Awards was a good thing after all?

These were just a few of the shows that again buoyed our box office another 2%, putting us up 20% over last season, with 6% more butts in seats.  And that’s despite, believe it or not, fewer shows on Broadway this season than last year at this time.  Pretty snazzy, huh?

Thank the two shows that did $2mm plus (Hello, Dolly! and The Lion King) and the $3mm show you’ve never heard of called Hamilton.

In all, 15 shows grossed over a million bucks.  See how your faves did below.
