Broadway Grosses w/e 8/13/2017: Don’t feel that bad for Broadway.

I almost started off this blog with a whine . . . because grosses dropped a whole percent from last week!  Boo hoo on us!  It’s very clear our summer is starting to wave a slow farewell as we sulk towards September.

But how can we complain?

We’re up almost 25% from last year, and it’s not just the Big 5 that are doing Big Business.  On Your Feet! did over $1mm last week.  The scandal scarred Natasha, Pierre almost broke the $1mm glass ceiling.  And Phantom did $1.1mm.

My quick analysis has just about every single show turning a profit last week.  The only show that surprised me is Miss Saigon at only $620k.  With the other tourist-specials raking in the dough, you’d think that one would do the same.

All this good news makes me start to wonder . . . maybe September won’t be as bad as we think?  See, our seasonal drops are all relative from where we start.  So, I’m starting to predict that this September might be one of the highest grossing we’ve seen in some time.

And with fewer shows on the boards (because some on the list below ain’t going to be around, whether they’ve announced or not), and the very popular Broadway Week promotion about to go on sale, we might not be complaining as much as we think.

Here’s hoping . . .
