KEN DAVENPORT

Ken is a Tony Award-winning Broadway and Off-Broadway Producer.

He began his career on Broadway as a production assistant on the revival of My Fair Lady starring Richard Chamberlain while a student at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.  Although he was an acting major, he quickly left the audition lines and began a career on the business side of Broadway, and for ten years was a company manager and general manager for many Broadway productions and National Tours including Show Boat, Candide, Ragtime, Jekyll & Hyde, Chicago, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Gypsy and more.

In 2004, he formed Davenport Theatrical Enterprises and began producing his own shows.  His “firstborn” was The Awesome 80s Prom, which ran for 10 years, followed quickly by the Outer Critics Circle Award-Winning Best Musical Altar Boyz, and My First Time, which has been seen in over 20 countries worldwide.  He was the first producer to have three shows running simultaneously Off-Broadway.  All three shows recouped their investment.

He returned to Broadway soon after and since then has produced Once On This Island (Tony Award), Gettin’ the Band Back TogetherThe Play that Goes WrongGroundhog Day (Tony nomination)Deaf West Theatre’s Spring Awakening (Tony nomination), It’s Only a Play, Macbeth starring Alan Cumming, Godspell, Kinky Boots (Broadway – Tony Award, National Tour, Toronto, Australia, and West End), The Visit (Tony nomination), Mothers and Sons (Tony nomination), The Bridges of Madison County (National Tour), Allegiance, ChinglishOleanna starring Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles, Speed-the-Plow, Will Ferrell’s You’re Welcome America (Tony nomination), Blithe Spiritstarring Angela Lansbury (Broadway, West End, and National Tour), and 13.

Off-Broadway, Ken has produced Daddy Long LegsAltar Boyz (Co-Conceiver), My First Time (Author), The Awesome 80s Prom (Creator), That Bachelorette Show! (Creator), and Miss Abigail’s Guide to Dating, Mating, & Marriage (Author). Ken’s productions have been produced internationally in over 25 countries around the world.

Ken is also the Executive Producer for North America for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group.

Additional producing projects include These Magnificent Miles, a documentary on one of the top unsigned rock bands in the country, The Bunny Hole, an award-winning TV pilot, and Miss Abigail’s Guide to Dating, Mating, and Marriage. 

Upcoming projects include VacationJoy the MusicalMy Life In Pink, the revival of The Great White Hope, and a musical based on the life of Harry Belafonte.
